A few days ago, I put my newly acquired 1974 Monte Carlo in storage.
I had only had it for a few weeks. Jacob and I spent some time working on it. To prepare it for storage, I made a few purchases, including all the usual winter car storage tips for Northeast owners, like using a breathable cover and rodent repellents.
Now what? (Admittedly, over the weekend, I put together 12 pages of notes for a car show I want to do)
And here come the holidays. While I see friends “bragging” about having their cars out in the south, to those of us in the northeast, the world is a bit different. Only yesterday, there was a bit of snow, and as Jacob pointed out this morning, there was a bit on the ground.
Thanksgiving is around the corner, and classic car storage during holidays becomes part of life for us, northeast car owners. Fortunately, as we get the food ready, the family will be showing up, and some of those folks talk cars! Most notably, my grandson, Jacob, and my granddaughter, Mariah!
I will get everything ready for the invasion! And I am sure cars will come up a bit! (And maybe I can talk my event planning daughter into helping with this show.) So, in between mouthfuls of food, funny stories, and perhaps a parade, there will be car conversations.
And while the day after is Black Friday, with lots of deals out there, I will work hard to avoid the schemes of wily marketers. But I know many who will be looking for those car accessories, including things like detailing kits and maybe a performance part or two. Jacob and I would be looking for some interior replacement parts, maybe from one of those junkyard walks! And I know some people already have cool rims and tires on the list. (I remember the first time I put a set of Cragars on with some Mickey Thompson low-profile tires on my Boss 302 Cougar Eliminator!)
This weekend I really want to get my tree up and, of course, lights. (And I will be dragging some people around to look at the lights. Some will be sipping hot chocolate, and others will be sipping wine! Some will get to do it in their classics. Maybe I ought to have added a tree-shaped air freshener before I enshrouded it! I washed it as a present!
I know some will decorate their cars with bows, antlers, or lights. And did you make over your garage? Order those new tools?
One of my favorite things is to see cool cars in holiday settings. (Feel free to share your “Christmas Car Cards” with us!)
And for those shopping for us, we will accept gift cards!
In the Northeast, short of driving south, many of us are in dream mode when it comes to cars. We have salt, sand, and snow on our roads. So, indulge us with your pictures of what it could look like!
And from us at Powerless Over Cars, we hope and desire that you have an enjoyable holiday season.
Back to those catalogs.
