Car shows-I love them. Ask anyone. I love them.
I have been going to car shows since I was a child. Though maybe our classic car show was held in the high school parking lot. Hey, I am 70! I have dragged kids and grandkids to car shows since they were little—big shows, little shows, classics, new, and exotic. Most cars are cars, except for the Yugo. (Is that a car?)
I have traveled to shows all across the Northeast. And when I traveled across the country, I hit a few of them as well.
Many know that places like Syracuse (About 5 hours) and Lake George (2 plus hours) are on my radar. (I have been attending the show in Lake George for over 35 years.)
But sometimes you want the show to be in your backyard. (Kind of like Christmas light displays. I want to do one of those next year!)
And so…
I decided I want to hold a car show in my “backyard.” And the wheels started spinning. I saw the look on my wife’s face when I said it. “Here we go again.” 😊
My wife has seen me do events, and small doesn’t exist for me. If you are going to do something, go big…or go bigger. I tend to be a little light on planning sometimes. Or as my wife, Tina, would say, “Did you count the cost?” I don’t think she is talking about money.
So, a few weeks ago, I pulled the trigger. And began the process.

I made a decision for a large venue. I like going to big shows in other places, but I want something close to home.
What does the process look like?
Well, it begins with the work to secure a venue. We are penciled in. More to come on the venue and we are looking at May. I say we, because I am working with Kevin, owner of Alternative Detailing.
So, I have…
- Working on the venue
- Waiting for approval from the town.
- Worked on event insurance
- Applied for the permits
Oh, yeah, and heck of a lot more.
The Gathering
So, now begins the process of reaching out to interested people. Yes, we need car, truck, and bike owners. But we need people who can work together to make people feel welcome and happy to be at the show.
I hope to see clubs. I want children to feel welcome, and that means kid events, including a touch-a-truck. How about vendors, food, and photos? We are going to need sponsors, advertisers, dealers, and more. We are going to reach out to the media.
And did I say volunteers?
If you read this and you think there is something you want us to consider, or you see a hat you may want to wear, let me know.
Thanks!
