When I was a kid, I had several what many would call “hot cars.” Mustangs, a Shelby, a Cougar Eliminator, and some sleepers. (Sleepers probably were the predecessors of what we now call “rat rods.” They were cars with substandard paint, big motors, and nothing that would indicate “I can beat you.”)
We used to race for pink slips or the registration of another person’s car. And even though I lived in a small town, there was a section in the town with a couple of garages, a snack bar, and lots of people.
You may see where I’m going with this. Loud exhausts, tire smoke, and smiles on our faces.
My favorite part of attending the Lake George show is the nighttime cruising. People start setting up chairs on the sidewalk in the early morning. (The cruise does not begin until 5 PM.) They bring their coolers. And they watch the cars for hours.
If you have ever watched the movie American Graffiti, you will see the epitome of “cruise nights.”A “snack bar”, cars cruising up and down the streets, speed, and noise! I do appreciate the burnouts that “occasionally” happen in places like Lake George. (And there are a few “burnout” events.)
The cruise nights of today are a bit different. (Can we go back to the original? 🙂 )
Cruise nights are more than just a gathering of cars—they’re an experience! Here are five great reasons to check one out:
Amazing Cars & Trucks
Every week, I come across a car or truck that catches my attention. (Last week was no different.) Muscle cars, hot rods, or imports, cruise nights showcase vehicles you won’t see every day. Everyone is different, whether it’s in terms of paint, motors, styles, or more.
I love the classics, and “sadly,” my grandson likes a lot of imports. But we both agree that sound and power are the key! 😊

What about the place?
Enjoy the atmosphere – live music, delicious food, and the hum of engines create an unbeatable vibe for car enthusiasts and casual visitors alike, whether it’s at a brewery, restaurant, or a parking lot!
For those of you planning the event… MAKE IT SPECIAL! Offer the car owners something special. They are the reason people come on cruise nights. Give them food specials or a prize. Be creative! Offer trinkets or gift cards to those who drive the farthest, attend early shows, or show up the most times! Maybe do a scavenger hunt for the kids! (If you want the next generation, think intentionally.) Treat them like gold!
Meet Fellow Enthusiasts
Connect with people who share your passion, swap stories, and maybe even get tips on restoration or modifications. Bring in guests who can help car owners. (Insurance companies, restorers, detailers, etc.
Do interviews. Promote on social media. Make a difference.
Do a raffle! (We can help!)
Capture Cool Moments
Whether you’re snapping pics of stunning rides or getting behind the wheel of a dream car, cruise nights are perfect for social media-worthy shots. Post signage at your event to indicate where car owners can park their vehicles. Get a photographer.
Find those owners who will let people sit in their cars. Invite an influencer or two. Make it a reason to be there.
Get Inspired – Thinking about a new project car or customizing your ride? Seeing others’ builds up close might spark your next great idea!
The next generation is waiting for you. Let people know what you do. What are you thinking about and how to make a difference? (We want to be part of it.)
Cruise nights are more than showing off cars.
Powerless Over Cars is willing to be at your event. Please let us know how we can assist you. The suggestions mentioned above are just some of the ideas.
Does your event need music? Food? Influencers? Photographers? Want to raise funds for an organization?
How can we collaborate to make a positive impact?
Have you ever attended a cruise night before, or are you considering attending one soon?
