Powerless Over Cars: A Labor of Love for the Car Community

Each one of us is a representative of the car world, and that’s what we’re powerless over cars: producing the best cars ever, paint jobs that are awe-inspiring. For some, it’s about extracting every last bit of horsepower from a motor or setting up a killer traction package. But each one brings something to the table.

I have raced and owned racing companies way back in the days of Carroll Shelby, Micky Thompson, and Russ Collins that shaped my vision for powerless over cars. I love it all. Every car is different. Every vehicle is a representation of its owner and their personal tastes.

And now at 70, I look around and I am wowed by what goes on.

Powerless Over Cars is for people like me. People who know one may not be enough when it comes to how many cars one might have. There is not enough horsepower to go around some days. And find themselves distracted by the sounds of cool exhausts. (Thinking that tunnels are the ultimate sound chambers!)

And I want to do something amazing. I want to read, watch, and hear about the coolest of cars. I want to see the oldies but goodies, and work to understand the newest trends. (I remember my friend Matt when he started a Corvette museum, and he told me about a chip in the motor that changed everything. A few months ago, I examined a supercharged motorcycle that was controlled by a computer, which determined every aspect of the drive, including the suspension, in microseconds. WHAT???)

And I want to remember that. To let others see the old, the new, and always the cool! And I need help. So, let’s begin.

How will they know you say?

Photographers, Videographers, and Drone Operators

Over the last few months, we shared well over 10,000 photos of vehicles. My grandson Jacob loves taking pictures and does. He provided 35 MM, a Drone, 360 VR, and a GoPro video and photos.

However, I have come across some fantastic photos that are truly remarkable. In New England, there is a guy I have yet to meet. Evgenii Kozhemiakin, your pictures are amazing. And in New York, there are a couple of guys who cover shows like the Adirondack Nationals, they are Jerry Bartlett and Shane Newkirk. And of course, my friend Tina! And then there are hundreds more posting great pictures and videos.

I am committed to collaborating with you to the best of my ability. (Months ago, I put up an article about photographers.)

And about 20 years ago, I told a friend that I wanted a Roku channel. We shall see!

Can You Hear Me Now?

What about audio? There may be a person who knows they have a “Face made for radio” that wants to put together an audio podcast. I get that. I worked in radio! A lot of people want to hear what is going on. Perhaps at some point, we can incorporate this with the “interviews” I want to start doing with folks. (For instance, the guy in Lake George with the pirate car. Don, I haven’t forgotten.)

I really want to provide the canvas or the vehicle for folks who want to do something occasionally, as well as those who may want to do more with it.

Writers

Yep, some people actually read. If you’ve made it this far, you are one of them. Would you like to put together a story about a car, or a story about a car show? People would love to read it. Add a few pics, and you will be golden.

A Labor Of Love

Initially, this will involve some volunteering. However, as we attract sponsors and advertisers to these pages, we will utilize the model that has served us well in other companies we have owned, where we have split monies with creators.

And finally, we come to one of my favorite places. For over 15 years in various companies I have owned, I developed what we called Ambassadors, Roving Reporters, and Town Criers for our business. In one company, the Town Criers shared the news of their communities. The Ambassadors went out and promoted what we do as a company.

I see the Town Criers here telling us about car shows going on, charities being supported, shops that are helping others, and people who are making a difference they have encountered.

Here, another one we used successfully in the past. The Roving Reporter. The person who may be found at a community car show today, talking the history of a car or truck with someone tomorrow, and sharing the accomplishments of an area club.

What about those Ambassadors?

The dictionary would tell us that an ambassador is a person who acts as a representative or promoter of a specified activity. A representative. A promoter.

In the world of cars, I see them promoting the sport, connecting clubs, shows, and events, as well as businesses and people.

And if you see a way powerless over cars can do something better, or maybe a place we are missing it, I hope you will let us know. Jacob and I want to serve you to the best of our ability.

In the words of the 1950s Esso company, Happy Motoring!
